    Types Of Boilers

    Types Of Boilers

Whether it's a Combi Boiler, System Boiler or Heat Only Boiler, Plumbco online have a wide range of reliable, efficient boilers for you to choose from.

    Combi boiler –

Combination boilers were first designed to combine all parts of your central heating system into one space efficient unit. They are able to supply hot water, as well as central heating.

Combination boilers also use condensing technology to heat the water efficiently. Instead of using recycled gases, they use heat from the flue gases. When you are in need of heating or hot water, a gas burner within the boiler is lit. The heat from the flame then begins the circuit of heat transformation, which in turn heats your radiators or hot taps using a plate heat exchanger.

It is also common for modern combi boilers to have a pre-heat system installed. A pre-heat system stores a small amount of hot water, allowing you to have quick access to a small amount of hot water as soon as you require it.

Pros- Highly energy efficient, compact size & quick heating.

Cons- Water flow is reduced when 2 or more outlets are being used & relies on good mains water pressure.

    System boiler –

System boilers are often found in larger homes and are known for supplying heating and hot water at a greater demand. System boilers feature a separate cylinder to store a supply of hot water. This allows for a constant flow of hot water throughout your household. This differs to Combi boilers, which only heat water on demand.

Pros- Ideal for properties with high water demands, do not require a cold water cistern & do not require any components in the attic.

Cons- Rely on the mains water pressure, have a high pressure rate so may not be suitable for older systems & require a hot water storage cylinder.

    Regular boiler

Also known as heat only boilers, regular boilers are commonly labelled as the traditional form of central heating. Regular boilers use both an individual cold water tank and an individual hot water tank, allowing you to have a storage of both. Both are commonly fitted into your loft space.

Pros- Provide a greater flow rate and do not require water to be supplied at a high pressure. Therefore, they are a good choice for places with low mains water pressure.

Cons- Require multiple water tanks, therefore they take up more space.

    Condensing boiler –

Condensing boilers are common in most homes today. This is because, they are well known for being highly efficient. They heat water by collecting gas made by burning fuels, such as gas and oil. The recycled gas is collected using a heat exchanger, known as the primary circuit. Thus saving you money and reducing carbon emissions. As of the 1st of April 2005, all new gas boilers installed in the UK have to be condensing boilers by law.

    Gas boiler –

Gas boilers continuously burn gas fuel to heat the water for your household. They can either use natural gas fuel or LPG (liquid petroleum gas) fuel. LPG boilers will need to have the LPG supply regularly replaced. Whereas, natural gas boilers will have constant fuel fed to them via an underground system.

    Electric boiler –

Although not as popular as gas boilers, electric boilers are ideal for houses not connected to a gas network. An electric boiler heats the water internally and therefore reduces the amount of heat energy wasted. Despite being simple to install and very versatile, electric boilers are seen as a more costly option compared to gas.
