    How To Prevent Frozen Pipes

    Frozen pipes are a common issue when temperatures drop and can unfortunately escalate to burst pipes. When the water inside your pipes freeze, it expands. Depending on the strength of your pipes, the pressure from the water expansion can be too much and cause them to give way.     Of course, a huge recommendation is to have your boiler regularly serviced. We suggest having yours serviced once a year, within the warmer months. We recommend to have it done within the warmer months because it’s more crucial for your boiler to be prepared and working well in the winter, when you’ll require it most.  

    As well as this, although it may be obvious, leaking taps need to be fixed and fully turned off after use. Leaking taps can result in your drains freezing, leading to an overflow. If you spot a leak or any issue at all, it is essential that you know where your stopcock is. The stopcock can be used to stop the water flow and therefore, prevent any further issues. A stopcock is also handy to use if you are going away for a while. As no one will be home, shutting off your water flow may prove to be quite efficient and will prevent the chance of any mishaps while you’re away.

    Another key tip is to insulate your pipes. This will reduce the amount of heat escaping from within the pipes and will in turn prevent them from freezing.     Although obvious, we also suggest blocking out the cold air from within your home and keeping the warm air circulating. This can we aided by closing all windows for example, to keep your whole home warm throughout, and opening your airing cupboard. Despite the fact that this is probably something you already do, keeping your pipes and tank warm is essential.
